Ilana Shechter - Chinese Ink Painting Artist (Xiěyì 寫意) 

I am Ilana Shechter, an artist who creates in Xiěyì 寫意, or spontaneous-style Chinese Brush Painting. Born in Russia, I have been based in Israel since 1999.

I love nature, I hold a degree in biology education and am fascinated by the world of flowers and small animals such as birds, butterflies, bees, and various other insects.

I believe that in Chinese Ink Painting, it is vital to express symbolism, simplicity, and emotion, wherein the final work leaves a lot of room for the viewer`s interpretation.

All my works are created using authentic Chinese materials and tools such as Xuan rice paper, ink, mineral pigments, and traditional brushes. 

Currently based in my studio in Rishon LeZion, Israel.
